JON ARELLANO

Jon Arellano is a Senior Environment Artist, currently working at Santa Monica Studios. Over the last decade, he has created high-quality game environments for popular AAA titles such as God of War: Ragnarok, Call of Duty: Cold War, Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, Ashes of Creation: Apocalypse, and Everquest. Jon is also an instructor at Gnomon and has done live workshops, demos and panels. His work has been featured on 80lvl, ArtStation, and Adobe Substance 3D.

JACOB NORRIS

Jacob Norris (PurePolygons) is the Co-founder and Creative Director at Sierra Division. With a career spanning over 15 years, he’s developed robust expertise in 3D environment design, studio pipelines, and leadership, as well as possesses extensive knowledge of video game genres and art styles.

Prior to founding Sierra Division, he worked at Insomniac Games, Kojima, Naughty Dog, and led multiple projects and teams at NVIDIA. Some of the games he’s worked on include Metal Gear Solid V, Resistance 3, Uncharted 4, and NVIDIA’s RTX Demos.

Get 8 weekly or bi-weekly sessions with your mentor, Jon Arellano*

In this comprehensive mentorship, mentees will create a complete environment art project from start to finish that will serve to be the highlight of their portfolio and showcase their best skills.

*Prerequisite: Artists must possess general 3D knowledge. Our mentorships are ideal for students enrolled in a 3D art program, recent grads, or self taught junior to intermediate 3D artists.

F.A.Q

  • When does my mentorship start?
    Once you have booked your mentorship, you will receive an email with your mentor’s availability. You will then be able to select the date and time that works best for you. Our first mentorship sessions with Jon Arellano and Jacob Norris will be held in August 2024.
  • How long are the sessions?
    Tier One and Tier Two sessions are one hour. If you booked the Career Guidance mentorship, the session is two hours plus a 30 minute follow-up.
  • Can I record my session?
    No, you are not allowed to record or redistribute your sessions. We will provide you with notes, paint overs and transcripts that you will be able to refer to during and after the mentorship.
  • Will I get a job in the industry after the mentorship?
    While we cannot guarantee job placement, our mentorship program is designed to significantly enhance your skills and increase your chances of landing a job. Your mentor will provide you with the guidance and preparation needed to make you a strong candidate in the industry.
  • What will I learn during the mentorship?
    Our mentorships are tailored to your needs and there is no set curriculum. Prior to the start of the mentorship, you will be asked to complete a form inviting you to share your needs and goals. Your mentor will create a plan based on the information you have provided.
  • Do I need to prepare for the mentorship?
    Yes. To make the most of your mentorship you are expected to come prepared with questions, your portfolio and/or artwork files to each session.
  • What happens if I miss a session?
    If you cannot make a session, please contact your mentor to reschedule. All sessions must be completed within 3 months from the start date.
  • I am no longer available. Can I get a refund?
    Refunds are not available once you have completed the first session. However, if you encounter a scheduling conflict, we can work with you to find a suitable rescheduling option.
